RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

I’ll be honest with you… I have never been a huge Planet of the Apes fan but this trailer has definitely got me geeked! This film is an origin story set in present day San Francisco, where man’s own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.

First of you have James Franco, Tom Felton, Brian Cox, David Oyelowo and the vast array of other wonderful actors on display in this trailer but most of all I’m excited to see what the WETA Workshop cooked up. Those guys are amazing!  The VFX on display in the “Apes” trailer are top notch! True, we only get one really good look at Andy Serkis Caesar, but it was enough to sell me.

Takashi Murakami x Pharrell Williams: The Simple Things

I had never seen this interview but it was interesting.  Producer | Designer Pharrell Williams teamed up with Takashi Murakami to create and present a 6-foot tall sculpture called “The Simple Things”.  Pharrell explains that their motivation behind the ‘creation’ came from the fact that a lot of people need to see things covered in diamonds to see how essential they are in their lives.

The sculpture features a glass-fiber, steel and acrylic head based on Murakami’s cartoon-inspired signature character Mr. Dob. In its mouth you find objects which are the essentials in Pharrell Williams’ everyday life: A can of Pepsi, a cup cake, a sneaker and bottle of Johnsons baby lotion. These objects are encrusted with 26’000 diamonds and gems.

In this interview with Ute Thon (Art Magazin), Pharrell Williams talks about how cooperation came about, the idea behind the sculpture, his interest in art and design, the artists and designers he admires, and his own design works.

NAS & DAMIAN MARLEY “PATIENCE”

I am currently filming in Kingston Jamaica and I’m feeling real irie.  Well, at least now I am.  The week started out a bit shaky.  I documented everything, so I’ll share that madness with you in a few days.  For now I’m living in the positive. Anyhow, I had to post this amazing video from NAS and Damian Marley.  The song is entitled “PATIENCE“.  The video was directed by NABIL.  NABIL, the Australian raised director has always impressed me with his work.  He is extremely creative and has a great eye.  I have been following and learning from him for sometime now.  In my opinion he is becoming or has become one of the most creative directors in the industry.  He has an extremely innovative and abstract style and his use of CG effects and pop art visuals in his videos are great but at the same time he is not one of those directors that loose you with just beauty.  He also effectively conveys the vision of the song to the video.

Directed and shot by: NABIL
Editor: Eric Greenburg
Post/artwork: Gustavo & Clara
Produced by: Nabil & Kathleen Heffernan

NICKI MINAJ ft. DRAKE – MOMENT FOR LIFE

I’ve heard a few people speak poorly of Nicki Minaj’s “Moment for Life” video and I totally disagree with their comments.  Director Chris Robinson did his thing once again on this video!  He totally personified a truly celebratory feeling at their larger than life mansion location in Beverly Hills.  The production value/detail was fantastic.  Everything from wardrobe to set design was on point.   I have no idea what the critics are thinking.  I assume they would rather see hip hop artist in front of cars with rims, guns and chicks that we have all seen in 50 other videos shaking their ASSets.  I like where Drake and Nicki are going.  I welcome their creativity and the creative ideas of their teams.  I’ve also noticed the acting talent in both of them and think they are both destined for the big screen.  Drake, we already know has acting training and is an actor first but Nicki too has a gift and I hear she is taking acting classes currently.  Anyhow, shots out to the entire cast and CREW of this video…. Shots out to my dude CRASH the Director of Photography, Ev Solomon, Kroma on VFX and Colorist Dave Hussey!  Job well done…

MILK & HONEY

I just wanted to give my support to several friends that are a part of this new series brought to life by Asha Kamali, Dana Gills, and Jeanette McDuffie.  May they have great success with this!

Synopsis: Milk + Honey is a dramedy series created for the web that can live limitless within all multi-media channels. It focuses on the spiritual, professional and romantic journeys of four young, ambitious women navigating through the lights, smoke and mirrors of Hollywood. Nia, an aspiring actress on a quest to climb the Hollywood social ladder, tries to remain faithful through it all. Harper, the classic Black American Princess, shakes things up in the agency world. Samirah, an Ivy league educated free spirit and DJ, wants nothing to do with “the life.” Conversely, Farrah, a socialite wild child siren and heiress, is constantly looking for love and acceptance on the scene. the fifth character is the Los Angeles landscape – – it’s culture, music and fashion.

Actor/producer Idris Elba serves as an executive producer for the scripted series. “I decided to get involved with Milk + Honey because of the strong demand for content that is relatable and authentic” states Elba about his involvement with the project, “Brown Paper Dolls has an intuitive way of displaying positive images of women throughout the series.” The series stars Lance Gross (Our Family Wedding, House of Payne), Faune Chambers (Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Bryce Wilson (Beauty Shop), veteran actress Debbie Allen and introduces Asha Kamali.

THE TERMINAL

Right now it is 2:37AM and I am “trying” to get some rest  here in the Philadelphia International Airport.  No flight attendants, no TSA, no Staff.  Just me, TY Walker and so far I’ve seen an older gentlemen riding some sort of floor buffer and two other people that are obviously in the same predicament as me.  This airport is huge.  I’ve walked all through it in search of life.  No signs.  All I know is that I was headed to NY to prep and shoot a music video and commercial but because I missed my flight earlier, I was forced to take another flight which due to the weather conditions caused it to be delayed, causing me to arrive at PHL late resulting in me missing  my connection flight to JFK.  So now I have to wait until 600AM to catch the next flight.  I guess I’m not alone because I just got a call from Condra, my business partner saying that her flight was re-routed to Baltimore and that they were unsure when it would be taking off again. Often, in this quest to live the dream, peruse the dream(s), we have to travel which I love doing but I am definitely going to have to work on my punctuality because I am late for far too many flights resulting in sleepless nights in ATL, JFK, LAX, AWR, LGA, ORD, LHR, SAT, HOU, DFW, MIA, FRA, MAD, NRT, ETC and a few other airports.  Sorry if I bored you with this one but I needed to get a few words off before I started my search for the best spot to make a tent and bed for my camp out here at the airport.  (MacGyver/Bear Grylls)  Next stop after NYC…SLC!  SUNDANCE Film Festival 2011!
