Starz knows how to pick them. I do not watch much TV but they had me hooked with “SPARTACUS” and now their new show “MAGIC CITY” is looking amazing. Great cast and plot. The show premieres April 6th.
Miami Beach, 1959. As Ike Evans rings in the New Year at his luxurious Miramar Playa Hotel, Havana falls to Castro’s rebels. It’s a turbulent time in Miami, but it’s THE place to be. The Kennedys, the mob and the CIA all hold court here. And Ike, he’s the star of his hotel. But everything comes at a price.
To finance his dream, he sold his soul to mob boss Ben “The Butcher” Diamond. Ike’s wife Vera, a former showgirl, and his three kids think he’s an honorable man, but he can’t break his pact with the devil. His life is a façade. In fact, nothing at the Miramar Playa is what it seems. By day, it’s diving clowns and cha-cha lessons. By night, escorts have secret liaisons with husbands in the family cabanas, while Miami’s seedier residents and the law drift together to hear legendary singers, musicians and comics. As Ike’s world threatens to implode, he fights for his family, and the Miramar Playa, in Magic City. [www.starz.com/originals/MagicCity]

During the Rwandan genocide, when neighbors killed neighbors and friends betrayed friends, some crossed lines of hatred to protect each other.
At the time of the 1994 Rwandan genocide, the Mufti of Rwanda, the most respected Muslim leader in the country, issued a fatwa forbidding Muslims from participating in the killing of the Tutsi. As the country became a slaughterhouse, mosques became places of refuge where Muslims and Christians, Hutus and Tutsis came together to protect each other. KINYARWANDA is based on true accounts from survivors who took refuge at the Grand Mosque of Kigali and the madrassa of Nyanza. It recounts how the Imams opened the doors of the mosques to give refuge to the Tutsi and those Hutu who refused to participate in the killing.
KINYARWANDA interweaves six different tales that together form one grand narrative that provides the most complex and real depiction yet presented of human resilience and life during the genocide. With an amalgamation of characters, we pay homage to many, using the voices of a few.

I’ll be honest with you… I have never been a huge Planet of the Apes fan but this trailer has definitely got me geeked! This film is an origin story set in present day San Francisco, where man’s own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.
First of you have James Franco, Tom Felton, Brian Cox, David Oyelowo and the vast array of other wonderful actors on display in this trailer but most of all I’m excited to see what the WETA Workshop cooked up. Those guys are amazing! The VFX on display in the “Apes” trailer are top notch! True, we only get one really good look at Andy Serkis Caesar, but it was enough to sell me.
Ready!

I’ve watched the numbers grow on this video and heard a lot of great comments about it. I agree… This joint is hot! These kids are very creative. “Odd Future” (OFWGKTA) is the name of a loose collective of rambunctious “DIY – Do it yourself” friends from Los Angeles who make their own beats, write their own raps, and direct their own videos. These kids have managed to gain major attention in the music industry through a slew of albums and mix tapes released for free on the internet. In a little over two years, Odd Future has gone from uploading self-produced music videos to YouTube to, performing on Jimmy Fallon with the Roots. They’ve gone from skating around in swagged-out thrift store threads to being featured in a short film by Larry Clark for New York Fashion Week, from stealing cans of Arizona Iced Tea from convenience stores to being asked by Lykke Li’s camp to remix her new single “I Follow Rivers”. #TALENTED Check this video out.

I had never seen this interview but it was interesting. Producer | Designer Pharrell Williams teamed up with Takashi Murakami to create and present a 6-foot tall sculpture called “The Simple Things”. Pharrell explains that their motivation behind the ‘creation’ came from the fact that a lot of people need to see things covered in diamonds to see how essential they are in their lives.
The sculpture features a glass-fiber, steel and acrylic head based on Murakami’s cartoon-inspired signature character Mr. Dob. In its mouth you find objects which are the essentials in Pharrell Williams’ everyday life: A can of Pepsi, a cup cake, a sneaker and bottle of Johnsons baby lotion. These objects are encrusted with 26’000 diamonds and gems.
In this interview with Ute Thon (Art Magazin), Pharrell Williams talks about how cooperation came about, the idea behind the sculpture, his interest in art and design, the artists and designers he admires, and his own design works.
